Patience rewarded

Zinnia Swizzle® ‘Cherry & Ivory’

I planted a few Swizzle® zinnias in containers earlier this summer, hoping they’d provide some large bright color in the garden. I’m not sure if it was the extended hot, dry weather we had, but these varieties did next to nothing. The foliage looked ratty and leggy all the time, and the flowers that did bloom were muted versions of their promise. I considered ripping them out many times over the course of the season.

I likely won’t plant this variety again next year, but I was surprised by this single gorgeous bloom in this morning’s garden. The garden proved to me once again that sometimes patience pays dividends.
