Choosing a new path

During my visit to the University of Illinois Arboretum today, I stood at the base of a Scotch Pine (Pinus sylvestris) whose remaining needles betrayed the fact that it was nearing the end of its long life. As I stood at the base of the tree and looked up through its intersecting branches, I thought of just how many paths could be drawn to reach its top. This tree spoke to me, showing me that even when we feel diverted or blocked, we must choose a new path and continue on this quest called life.
